LOST IN TRANSLATION

"Mary" is the Hebrew "Miriam." People's names are all changed in the Bible because they were first changes in the Latin Vulgate, where "Mary" became "Maria." Other changes such as "Jesus" from "Joshua" and "James" from Jacob are bigger, but translators don't want these people to sound as Jewish as they were.

MY TAKE

People don't recognize us until we speak their names.

Unimportant Opinions and Imaginings

The popularity of "Miriam" as a name was due to the popular wife of Herod the Great, Miriamne." She was the last of the Hasmoneans (Maccabees) and was killed by Herod.
